Tiny comics

May 2, 2011

It’s been a while since I tried something in the comic form, and I’m a bit disappointed in myself about it because I read and think about comics pretty much all day. So I popped one out today,I basically just took some ramblings from my sketchbook and re-made it into pictures with panels but I’m quite pleased with it.

It’s something I’d quite like to take a bit further though, like maybe make a little book/zine about my other wacky adventures. Someone I really admire in the indie comic scene is Jeffrey Brown. I’ve always admired his really simple style and the brutally honest story telling found in his autobiographical stuff.  Here’s a wee snippet of his stuff!

Anyways please check out his stuff, I’m off to draw more comics :)

My Holiday Diary

April 2, 2011

Hello!

Hope you’re all doing well! I had a lovely wee holiday, it was totally beautiful and just what I needed. Now I’m back feeling super relaxed, inspired and more importantly, more productive.

Anyways, I made a little diary while I was away that I’d like to share with you.

Below are my first few entries, I’ll be getting the rest up in the next few days.

Take care!

Busy Busy Busy

March 17, 2011

I’ve been quite productive lately!

I’d Just quickly like to let you know some of the wee things I’ve got in the works…

Firstly is something I’ve been planning for a long time now, a little book! It’s about a little ghost, and all the mad stuff you’d get up to if you were a ghost. I’ve been co-writing it with my pal Campbell, as although I like to think I’m good at pictures I’m actually useless with the words side of things.

Here’s a sneaky peak!

Also! I’ve been designing some T-shirts with one of my screen printing pals, do you think this would look cool on a shirt?

Also in the works is an exhibition at the end of the year and an epic zombie comic which should hopefully be done around then, here’s another sneaky peak!
Right that’s all for now pals!

Cool Space Facts!

January 14, 2011

It may a surprise to you but I actually have a day job, yes believe it or not my doodles don’t quite cut a living. Anyways what I’m getting at is I work as a teacher in a community arts centre, me being the art teacher, and today I was doing a little class on space (our solar system specifically).

It went really well actually and I actually got quite animated and excited whilst I was doing my little presentation, anyways I’d like to share with you some cool space facts! This was actually one of the handouts from today…

I hope you found it interesting! I personally am a massive space geek and I’m holing out for a new telescope for my birthday (february 17th guys!).

In other news I have some cool new screen printing diplodocus bags in my etsy shop,  they’re only £5 ($8) and look how cool they are!

And everyone knows dinosaurs love to go shopping :)

Dad’s Soup!

January 2, 2011

Hello!

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and a good new year etc!

I thought today, that instead of my usual ‘happy new year here’s a picture blah blah’ I’d provide you with something of actual use.

Today I’d like to share with you one of my favourite things about christmas time, my dad’s winter soup!

It’s an easy peasy recipe, obviously you can add salt and pepper and other bits to taste but here’s the main bit.

I hope it serves you well :)

In other news, I spent a wee while (and all my christmas money) putting together a new workspace, it looks like this…

It’s a lot bigger and spacious than my last space so I’m hoping it’ll help me be more productive and hard working this year.

Oh! before I go I’d just like to let you know that I put a TON of pictures up on my etsy shop today so please have a look if you get a chance!

take care!

My Dream Last Night

December 11, 2010

Last night I had a dream, a very vivid dream including a space rocket, myself and the moon. So in an effort not to forget it, I drew out what I could remember after I woke up, here have a look!

I must admit, I’m pretty proud of my subconscious for this one!

They Lived in my Head

December 8, 2010

Hello readers,

Yesterday I did something amazing, something I have only done a handful of times in my life. I finished a novel.

And it was great. The novel was ‘Super Sad True Love Story’ by Gary Shteyngart, and it looks like this…

I can’t really describe the book other than a dystopian love story set in a grim yet frighteningly believable future (basically right up my street).

Anyways I’m not going to actually review the book because I’d be totally crap at it, I’d just like to talk about some of the characters.

After I finished the book and thumped it shut (I think that’s the universal gesture for finishing books) I felt a little sad, not because of the ending or anything, it was more because I had left the characters. And since it takes me months to get through a single novel, I had spent a lot of time with these people floating around my head waiting to speak whenever I opened up the book again.

Like most people, I gave them faces. I imagined what they might have looked like if I met them, although the book does describe their appearances I’m guessing everyone’s picture in their head would be different.

So as a little homage, and a drawing exercise I decided to put their faces onto paper.
This is Lenny, I guess you could say he is the main character, his diary entries make up half of the book and from them you can tell he’s a bit of an old hat in a new world, in fact he’s one of the few people he knows that actually still reads books or ‘printed bound media’ as they’re refered to. For whatever reason I imagined him to look a bit like Paul Giamatti.

Next is Eunice

Eunice is kind of an ambassador for this future world, being all media and up to date. She is also Lennys love interest. Her side of things is also accounted for, except through the media of emails and in some cases typed conversations like you’d see on msn messenger or facebook chat(quite an interesting way of seeing a story unfold).

So yea, I highly recommend this book if you’re into the same things as me.

I guess drawing these people was my own little way of giving them a send off.  I’m starting to think I need to get out more.

Well thanks for reading!

Sketchbook Entry 19/11/10

November 24, 2010

Hello!

Just a wee doodle today, please take it into consideration as I worry about all of you too!

In other news my wee pal/mascot Herman the tortoise went into hibernation last night, it was quite emotional. I’m a wee bit gutted as that’s him away till spring time, sometimes I’d quite like to hibernate, but then again I’d miss Christmas.

I took a wee photo of him in his little box before he departed for the shed.

He will be sorely missed.

Sketchbook Entry 12/11/10

November 12, 2010

So I got home from work today feeling a bit creative, but only having an hour or so to spare before I went back out. I thought to myself ‘maybe instead of doing my usual faffing about with computers or flicking through tv channels I’ll set myself a little challenge?’ like making and finishing something within the hour.

It was originally made of 2 or 3 different pictures but I ended up cropping it lots as I like this composition better. Anyways, It’s about me fancying someone.

In other news I have recently acquired a new robot, I think he looks like a Percy, wouldn’t you say?

As always, any feedback on my work is more than welcome!
